It's one of my favourite times of the year, Halloween! I'm a big horror fan and it's a great time to get bargains on horror films and spooky tat. You also get lots of day to day items with Halloween themes added to them. Today I'll be looking at one of these, Screamin' Sours cake bars by McVitie's.
I think the packaging is pretty nice with the creepy scarecrow and the bats. I am slightly dubious however that the cake bar will be as purple as it shows on the front, but I will soon find out.
I am not much of a fan of blackcurrant flavoured stuff but I enjoy sweets that have some sourness to them, so I thought I would give these a go.

They're individually wrapped which I prefer with cake bars as it means they will stay fresh for longer once you've opened up the main packaging.
A little blurb on the wrapper describes them as 'an eye-watering blend of ghoulish purple sponge, dark crackly chocolate and a sour blackcurrant flavoured filling'
Time to have a taste and see if it lives up to the description!

Although not as purple as it shows on the packaging it still has a pleasing light lavender/lilac colour to it, which coincidentally goes rather well with my nails.
The sponge is nice and light and the chocolate is lovey as always for a MvVitie's product, but not crackly as it's described. The blackcurrent filling while not overly sour does have a nice sour kick to it that isn't overpowering and makes you feel slightly dribbley...
I thought these were a tasty snack that are a bit different to most of the cake bars you get. I would recommend them if you like McVitie's products, like sweets with a sourness to them, or like me, you like food to be strange colours!
