There are a couple of shops in Brighton that sell Chinese, Japanese and Thai foods that I go to when I get the chance, and stock up on a few things (usually spicy noodles mmmm) Yesterday I got a chance to go in one to grab some noodles and had time to look around the small shop. While looking I came across these:
I'm a fan of seafood flavoured foods and although I have tried squid crisps before I hadn't tried these.
I can only assume that all the squids used in the preparation of these crackers are all called Paul. Poor Paul number 3974625 having to be made into powdered flavouring for my hopeful enjoyment...
On the back is some info about these crackers, which lets you know that they are 'the new coming snack' and 'is made by the high quality of raw material flavouring with squid flavour blending organic seaweed, ensuring for its good taste and freshness with high nutrients'.
It also lets you know this is a good snack that can be eaten in places including the movies, or while traveling. I soon found out when I opened them that this would not be a good idea and would most likely draw complaints. On the plus side, it would mean I wouldn't have to sit next to anyone!
On opening them they had a really strong smell. It took me a minute or two before I figured it out. You know that smell you get when you first enter a pet store, it's exactly that! These capture the pure essence of a pet store and have managed to package it for human consumption.
Looking into the packet the crisps were not quite how I imagined they would look, due to how they are shown on the packaging.

I took my first bite of a cracker and...now I'm hooked! They are really tasty, so much so that after eating my first one I had to stop myself from stuffing too many into my mouth. As I'm writing this I have to confess however that I have nearly finished off the whole packet already (oops!)
They are very light and crispy, and have a really strong taste of the seaweed and seafood. I know a lot of people would probably hate these and find the taste way to strong but for me they are really delicious and I will be buying them again!
If you are a fan of strong seafood flavours or like nori I would definitely recommend them, just don't eat them in a public place unless you are feeling particularly anti social.
